Spanish Air Traffic Control Strike
Spanish air traffic control Atico
a public company who own 51% of Aena signed Thursday 17 December 2015 a contract with the Trade Union of Air Traffic Controllers (USCA) good till 31 December 2020. Maintaining a continued period of stability!
HEADS UP Spanish air traffic control strike planned for October 3, 2015 has been cancelled.
Update:-Sunday 27 September 2015 More departure delays from Barcelona and Madrid today. Estimates as high as 40% of flights have been delayed in some shape or form. (We think controllers are milking the situation, flights should be back to normal by Sunday afternoon) See Madrid and Barcelona for delays.
Update:-September 14, 2015 Controllers confirm strike action for the 26th and 4th of October.
September 10, 2015 Spanish air traffic controllers will announce Monday whether or not to have two days of strike action.
Day's that are threatened:-
Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 6am - 6pm (local time)
and
Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 6am - 6pm (local time)
(We recommend you change your flight, a certain percentage of flights will go. Book yourself a hotel room now, at your airport, you can always cancel closer to the date. (What are the chances of union workers not voting for strike action? - slim. We will update on Monday.)

August 31, 2015 Baggage handler strike is planned for September - Malaga, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and Alicante airports see www.easytravelreport.com

---
Update:- Saturday 11 July 2015
Strike impact minimal today. 6,010 flights today, 1,104 between 10am - 1pm. So there you have it. Delays have been reported of 20 mins. (we suspect tomorrow evening to have more effect. The thought of having to stay over another night could be disconcerting. Call your boss)
Update:-8 July 2015 80% of flights by law must leave during these strike hours.
(Personal opinion. This must be frustrating for the union, to have minimal impact. Sooner or later they will be back with something worse)
Update:-Tuesday 7 July 2015 meetings to take place tomorrow. Strike is still on.
29 June 2015 New Spanish air traffic control dates are in. Local times.

You should also know perhaps:-
UK National rail strike, Greek airport strike Don't forget Iceland baggage handler strike, Ryanair baggage handler strike, Madrid baggage handler strike and Barcelona..
(UK national rail strike has been called off for the second time, but the i's not dotted)
(We remember last Spanish strike. Which had air space closed for days. Hotels were hard to find. Availability was either top, top of the line or places you would not put your enemy up in. Hoteliers were in a real quandary. Should they kick guests out just in case the guest for that week showed up.
Passengers changed flight to leave from Portugal or French airports.
Do you remember England sent an aircraft carrier to the rescue!
Rental cars equally hard to find. Car ferries and trains were booked up, months prior.
As situation's go airlines can work around this, call your airline. Save every receipt, take photo's of the departure board. Know your rights. Make sure you have room on your credit card for extra hotel rooms and food.
Pure speculation - we think Spanish goverment will settle this issue quickly and it won't drag on into the summer. Spanish economy needs the money. Now see me eat my words)
Remember compensation:-
Delayed 2 hours - meal, drink and telephone call. (Does this mean international call?)
In Germanay Lufthansa gave out bottled water and a sweet wrapped thing)
If the flight leaves following day they will provide hotel and transportation to and from hotel/meal.
Monitary compensation is available from 250 - 600 euros depending on the distance. We are not up to date on this.
