Australian Services Union applying for permission to conduct a ballot all options open, all out strike or four hour work stoppage.Check in staff paid $22.50 hourly. Qantas pilots and maintenance engineers also in wage disputes.Qantas has "robust contingency plans". Qantas raise fuel costs. Overseas tickets will increase by between $30 and $45

23, September, 09 5 million tonnes of dust, International flights were diverted from Sydney, ferries on Sydney Harbor were suspended and motorists warned to take care on roads because of poor visibility. The dust storm set off smoke alarms in some buildings in Sydney's central business district and halted construction.
13, September,09 Flight in and out of Sydney airport were either delayed or cancelled today due to lack of air traffic controllers, shifts couldn't be filled.
22 April,08 Qantas sues Union responsible for March passengers hell. Passengers from Sydney to Perth, Northern Territory to South Australia to Brisbane. Thousands of passengers effected by baggage handlers, many had to leave airport without luggage. Not nice landing into this from an international flight.
3/31/09 You knew it, except now it's official, Sydney Airport is the worst in the country. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission report.
On top of that visitors have to put up with the most expensive airport parking in the country. An exorbitant $14.00 per hour. Gouging doesn't stop there. Airport coffee, $4 double the price that you'd get outside, $4.00 to use a SmarteCarte. An airline has to pay $13 per passenger they bring into the airport.
3/30/09 All's well for now, ended after 4 hours, caused chaos country wide. The issue has to be resolved, expect to be caught up again in another industrial dispute sooner than later!
3/30/09 Strike by Qantas employees at Sydney Airport today by baggage handlers, caterers, cleaners and ground handling crews.
International and domestic arrivals will not be unloaded. Airport at standstill. Planes sit on runway. Airport staff piled luggage up in the middle of the departure lounge. Took passengers an hour to reach the head of the counter.
Row over Qantas and Jetstar, out sourcing a 100 jobs, baggage handling and check-in jobs at Sydney International, Hobart and Launceston airports. The Transport Workers Union (TWU) say this is a security threat as new workers will not undergo full ASIO security clearance.
